For the mystically inclined, I was conceived in New York City -- and have other family connections here -- though, given the realities of World War II, I was born and raised in Cincinnati. For various reasons, I visited the City many times over the years, and after graduating from Williams College, moved here permanently. My mother had had the wisdom to make a man from Brooklyn my new dad, so the circle was complete. I settled in the Brownstone Belt -- the early "suburbs" that grew up around Downtown Brooklyn, an independent city until 1898. While working for 30 years in book marketing, I devoted my weekends to walking tours and my evenings to reading about New York history. In fact, my days were devoted to reading as well, often touching on the City and its lore.
Since devoting my time exclusively to the tour business, I have taken student groups to famous sites, senior groups on "highlights" tours, visitors from many countries across the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn "expats" to places important to their families and youth, urbanists to our "New Towns," and many private clients to places that especially interest them, from colonial farms to holiday lights. Historic walking tours are a specialty, and I am eager to tailor one to your interests.
Let me know what fascinates you about New York and I will taylor a tour to your needs.
Tours & Services Offered
I take pleasure in designing tours for groups or individuals with special interests, from family heritage to famous Christmas displays to fabulous views. Uptown, downtown, Italian, Irish, Asian, Afro-Caribbean -- tell me what you want to see. That said, my experience in Brooklyn does make me an expert in the county of Kings (the borough is also known as Kings County), from the hot-hot trendies in Williamsburg to the colorful history of Coney Island. Bus tours or walking/subway tours are all in my repertory.
