GANYC Apple Awards FAQs

We have completed several years of the GANYC Apple Awards, but still we've realized that there are many questions that we receive from our members, friends, and fans about how the whole thing comes together. It was suggested after our last event that we put together a composite document to answer all of those questions. A sort of "Dummies" guide to the Awards, and so we have.

We've uploaded the pdf into the member documents, and present it to you here and now. Please note that this is a working, living, changing document and we're open to further suggestions and questions, etc. Please contact Awards@ganyc.org with any related issues.

GANYC Apple Awards

On March 2nd, 2015, the Guides Association of New York City began hosting its annual GANYC Apple Awards to honor the people, places and things that make our city the best one to show off to the many tourists who come through our gates each year. We rely on many to put this event together and wanted to lay out all the information for our members and fans in one document.

How do Nominations Work?
Suggestions for nominations were open online, beginning August 5, 2020. They are open to all GANYC Members, both full and Provisional. The form will not track the participants, so there is no limit to the number of times a single member can propose a nominee. This suggestion process will be open until October 1. After the survey is closed, the awards committee will meet to discuss the offerings and come up with the four nominees in each category.

How Will the Committee Choose Those Final Four?
The awards committee will take several factors into account when finalizing the list of nominees, including but not limited to: number of mentions, relevancy to the category, contribution to the category, previous wins/nominations, the likelihood of acceptance, relationship to GANYC, the benefit to the recipient, and more.

How are Winners Selected?
Voting takes place online, in December and January. As with nominations, voting is available to all members— full and provisional.

When do We Find Out Who Won?

The 7th Annual GANYC Apple Awards will be held on Monday, February 22nd, 2021!
