Hi, I'm Akilah, a native New Yorker who enjoys helping people to navigate this immense city! I recognize that New York is a wonderfully unique city that is its own world in a sense, offering the chance to see a multitude of cultures, histories and practices in the same space, overlapping and influencing each other constantly. The layers of history that can be found on just one corner in New York are fascinating, and the continued development of neighborhoods never ceases to amaze me.
I believe that thoughtful conversations, good food and interesting walks bring mutual understanding. They also make great tours, so I try to have all three as I take people through NYC neighborhoods.

I am a teacher by trade and spend most of my days working with immigrant high school students who are still learning English, helping them achieve academic success. In the past I worked for a study abroad organization, sending mainly U.S. college students to non-traditional study abroad destinations around the world.
Whether it's exploring the shiny new Oculus or classics such as the Brooklyn Bridge, I am happy to help both visitors and locals understand more about this great city.
