Michael Morgenthal

President

About:

I am honored to be the GANYC President for 2024-2025. I previously served on the GANYC Executive Board as Vice President (2020-2021), Secretary (2018-2019) and member-at-large (2016-2017). I also served as chair of the Industry Relations Committee for those 6 years.

I am a GANYC Certified Guide and a GANYC Apple Award Winner, winning the award for Outstanding Achievement in Support of NYC Tourism in 2020 for my work to allow tour guides to be able to continue giving tours at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I led many GANYC efforts during COVID to make sure our members got through the pandemic as best as possible, including collecting data to ensure that freelance guides were eligible for unemployment insurance, and the Tour Your Own City Program.

I have represented GANYC at myriad local, national and international events for the tour-guiding industry, including the WFTGA Conventions in Tehran, Iran (2017), Tbilisi, Georgia (2019) and Siracusa, Sicily (2024).

I have been a licensed NYC tour guide since 2010, and lead tours up and down the East Coast. But NYC tours and tour guides are my passion. Prior to becoming a tour guide, I was a magazine editor and newspaper reporter for almost 20 years, and my favorite tour I give is a history of NYC Newspapers in Downtown Manhattan.

I graduated from Syracuse University in 1993 with a degree in Newspaper Journalism and History, and graduated from the prestigious Bronx High School of Science in 1989. I live in the East Village with my lovely wife Nanette, to whom I have been married since 2018.

Please reach out to me for any GANYC related issues!
